October

We had some interest generated from the federation mailing, then I mailed to a list we had from the federation "gathering" event. A few have expressed interest, but won't have time to participate. We have now 8 people from 5 units. I'll keep you posted.

Emailing to Federation

The following message has been sent to the federation offices to be sent out to the 'gathering' list:
--------------------
We are writing to invite you to participate in a federation wide project that we have tentatively entitled: Living History, Building Futures. This was dreamed into being by some of the 'newer-younger' members of the Carondelet-St. Louis CSJs.
Briefly, the project is as follows:
WHO: Newer-Younger member initiated project that is open to all who may be interested. We particularly think that this may be of interest to Vocation/Formation people and to Archivists.
WHAT: This is a proposal for a federation wide project with newer-younger members involving face to face contact, but also online connection and follow-up among units: region, congregation, province - as they choose.
The project involves a progressive sharing of our history - e.g. starting with (newer-younger members) sharing our unit story with another unit. They too would share their unit story. The first unit would then entrust the second with a one page summary of their story (scrapbook style), it would be page one of the living history book. On the reverse side, would be names or signatures of sisters of the unit.
The second unit would take the book home and prepare their page, and then meet with the next unit (near them either chronologically or geographically) face to face to share stories and pass on the book (now supplemented by the second page), and so on.
The book would be completed and hopefully be present at the 2011 federation event. Hopefully it could be incorporated into some ritual or display.
WHY:
1. Provide an opportunity to collaborate across the federation on a common project.
2. Provide an opportunity for ongoing collaboration and meeting of newer-younger members.
3. Share the stories of our units (province/congregation/region).
4. Build consciousness of federation.
5. Build momentum toward the federation event 2011.
ACTION ITEMS:
1. Checkout the project website.
2. Respond to the project communication survey & sign up to receive ongoing communication.
3. Spread the word - forward this message to others who may be interested.
4. Organize with others in your unit who may be interested and want to participate: newer-younger members, formation/vocation people, archivists. Let us know of your interest: email a.hereford@yahoo.com or post at: http://lepuy1650.blogspot.com/
5. Volunteer for the project's National Coordinating Committee where you can: help shape the project, facilitate communication, help to coordinate the meetings between the units.
6. Follow the progress of the project on the website or the blog.

Thanks for your interest and we look forward to connecting across the federation over the weeks and months ahead.

Proposal and First Update

This is a proposal for a federation wide project with newer/younger members involving face to face contact, but also online connection and follow-up among units: region, congregation, province - as they choose.

Basically our idea would involve a progressive sharing of our history - e.g. Start with Carondelet/STL (newer/younger members) sharing our unit story with another unit, e.g. Phili, the first group to spring from STL. They would share their story. We would entrust them with a one page summary of our story (I'm picturing this with photos - kind of like scrapbooking) - it would be page one of the living history book. On the reverse side, would be signatures of sisters of St. Louis. (This could be presented to the community, and signatures could be gathered e.g. at the founders day celebration: Oct 15).

Phili would take the book home and prepare their page, and then meet with the next unit (near them either chronologically or geographically) face to face to share stories and pass on the book (now supplemented by their page). and so on.

This web site will follow the progress of the book as pages are added, and includes places for comments, prayers, links, etc. The last group envisioned to get the book would be the new congregation (the group of 7) and they would bring it to the Federation meeting in 2011 - some big hoopla would ensue.

Updates: Kathy McCluskey has agreed to mail out our proposal to the 'gathering' list, from that, hopefully we can gather our own list for further organization and planning. Kathy also agreed to present a flyer we prepare at the federation leadership gathering in November 2009. We are also contacting the folks planning the 2011 event.
